鶹Ƶ partner Laura Turano spoke with Mergermarket about an upswing in interest by U.S. investors in European companies. In “M&A Tourism: U.S. Investment into Europe Remains Resilient,” published on September 25, Laura discusses factors that have piqued U.S. interest, including the strength of the U.S. dollar against the Euro, and notes particular U.S. appetite for European companies in the digital, green transformation and AI spaces. However, because cross-border deals are significantly more complex than domestic ones, “one big acquisition may be preferable to several smaller cross-border add-ons,” Laura notes. Laura led two of the largest cross-border deals of 2023—Carrier’s acquisition of Germany-based Viessmann Climate Solutions in a transaction valued at €12 billion, and WestRock's $20 billion combination with Europe’s leading corrugated packaging company Smurfit Kappa.
