Litigation partners Liza Velazquez and Tiana Voegelin were featured in an article, “Your Summer Associate Experience: Insights from Paul, Weiss Litigation Attorneys,” published on June 9 in Vault’s law blog. Both Liza and Tiana were themselves summer associates and now take an active role in mentoring for the program.
In the article, they discuss what sets Paul, Weiss’s summer associate experience apart, including the opportunities summers have from the outset to play a role in major matters and begin shaping the trajectory of their careers. “We’re very busy, and we staff matters leanly, so there is opportunity for meaningful involvement and substantive responsibility on client matters at the earliest stages of your career,” says Liza. Tiana adds that summer associates are given opportunities to sample different practice areas and pursue their passion. “I knew that I really wanted to do sports law and work for certain clients, and they immediately made sure I got on an NFL matter,” she recalls.
Liza and Tiana also talk about the ample opportunities Paul, Weiss summer associates who are interested in litigation have to meet and learn from the nation’s most accomplished trial lawyers, sought after legal advisors and former government attorneys, and to forge important social connections and start building a professional community for themselves.
